To borrow a phrase from the article, this truck is the epitome of “retrofuture hell”. It’s like an airport tug (the squat little slabs that tow planes around) from a Raymond Loewy fever dream, a truck that looks like it should belong in a container yard, not the road.
Speaking of Loewy, his work is one of the defining sources for retrofuture hell. His MAYA principle (most advanced yet acceptable) stands up next to Dieter Rams ”less but better” as a universally useful design tool.
